In this course, you will examine the ways in which anti-trafficking and anti-smuggling treaties serve to further strengthen border controls and increase the vulnerability of migrants fleeing violence and persecution.
The course is based on IOM's Handbook on Protection and Assistance for Migrants Vulnerable to Violence, Exploitation, and Abuse. It aims to provide students with a common understanding of vulnerability as described in the Determinants of Vulnerability of Migrants Model (DVM) and proposes tools to better identify and respond to migrants' vulnerabilities.
